SESAME SEED BALLS BY LING NAM
We Filipinos know this sumptuous Chinese dessert as BUTSI. Butsi is a deep-fried glutinous rice ball with red bean or mongo paste filling and covered with sesame seeds. Our dinner at Ling Nam has been very ordinary until the butsi came. The sweet and sticky sesame seed balls are delightful. I wouldn’t mind coming back to Ling Nam to try out some of their specialties but the butsi will always be part of the order.
Mr. Foodie Goodie gives this dessert “4” Foodie Goodie stars.

My sister has a Christmas party tomorrow with her friends, so she asked me to bake something for her. I decided to go ahead with macarons since all her friends have been wanting to try them for some time. These are my Cherry Berry Macarons.
The reason they’re called cherry berry is because of the jam I used. Ever since Masterchef Live, I’ve been buying the same jam because I absolutely love the flavour, texture and quality of it. It’s New Zealand owned, and slightly more expensive than some of the Australian brands here, but I really do like it. Last time I tried Three Berry, and this time I’m trying Cherry Berry, which is a jam made up of cherries, boysenberries and redcurrants. Anathoth is committed to making jams that taste just like homemade, so all their jams are cooked the traditional way of just fruit and sugar. No pectin. Take a look at their website to find out more.
The construction of my macaron is like any other I’ve made. A red-purple coloured macaron shell filled with a pink white chocolate ganache, and in the centre a dollop of cherry berry jam. This macaron is towards the more sweeter side, but the textures are nicely balanced between the creaminess of the ganache and the fruitiness of the jam.
No recipe here. All you need though is:
- 1 batch of Macarons (coloured appropriately)
- Pink white chocolate ganache (just add food colouring to it)
- Cherry Berry Jam (or any jam of your choice for that matter!)
ENJOY! :D
